classroom management

have to find a way to remember names! I know it's important to recall students' names but I remember faces better than names ...
----
the fine line between professionalism and sincerity.

 ----
rhetorical question of the day: is caring and order are mutually exclusive -
- without order, nothing can be done
- if you show you are too caring, kids will climb all over you
- establishment of order in the classroom shows you care
- how we implement order (how do we define order)

-----
On the first week of school in a new school year, plan an introductory activity designed to help students become acquainted with you and with each other on the first day;

Plan how you intend to use the week to:
  • learn names
  • know them personally
  • show you care
  • show you welcome their input

-----
Rules and Routines

Rules - govern or related to behavior (respect your classmates)
Routines - aka procedures, related to specific events that might occur on a daily, weekly or term basis

Classrooms without rules or routines will be chaotic, would elicit resentment, will waste time.
Classrooms with R&R will reduce confusion, increase learning/teaching time, guide students to develop appropriate behaviours, and create a predictable / secure/ relaxed classroom environment.

-----

Determining Rules - Reasonable and necessary / clear and understandable
- appropriate to level
- 4-6 general rules, phrased in positve terms
- consequences must be in place, and must be enforceable
