Teaching Reading

Teaching vocabulary with contextual clues - teach explicitly but lead by questioning, do not give the answer directly.

Lesson Objectives are important: even questioning must be related to the objectives.
Keep the lesson tight, cohesive.

Post lesson: preempt class what will happen next lesson and how it links to class

DRTA - Directed Reading - Thinking Activity
Control the input of text by revealing text line by line. Lead by questioning (e.g. is this a topic sentence? what do you think this paragraph is about?)
Predicting the function of sentence in a paragraph.
