Birdman attacks

So what in the world is that, you ask?

well, it's a man in an inflated bird suit or rather, it's one of 6 men in six bird suits. A small pump continuously fills the suit with air. Waddling down narrow aisles, these 'birdmen' are meant to attract attention and direct businessmen to a particular exhibition booth (Shanghai furniture fair). Well, attract attention they did but don't ask me where they wanted me to go. All I could do was gawk and then smile as they teeter-totter up and down the exhibition. Everyone along their paths has to duck (ha ha... pun not intended) or get swatted by the open wings.

Actually I really pity the guys who have to make a living doing this. It's really very hard (and hot: 32 degrees and 90% humidity, probably worse in those plastic suits) work and I can't imagine they get paid a decent wage in China for doing this. To get past doorways, they turn sideways and hop through. I saw one who nearly fell over - granted the suit would probably cushion the fall but not his bruised ego.
